The official count for the 2013 Floatilla in Suttons Bay was 2099 canoes and kayaks!
Floatilla InformationThis annual Floatilla event is put on by the Suttons Bay Public School with much help from the entire community. Over 200 people volunteer including many students, school staff, parents and a variety of other supporters. Participation benefits local schools and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Floatilla money has helped fund the Robotics Team, Business Professional Association Regional and State competitions, Spanish Club service trip to Nicaragua, 7th Graders Camp Leelanau experience, elementary school trips to Washington DC and Mackinac Island, High School Student Assistance Fund as well as other activities and programs.
Registration is $25 online per vessel until September 3. In-person registration from September 3-5 is $35 per vessel. Only kayaks and canoes may participate. Everyone must wear a Coast Guard approved floatation device. To register online: www.sbfloatilla.com/registration
Camping at Suttons Bay new Herman Park, a 126 acres park adjacent to the school, is available. There are 100 rustic, tent only, campsites for Friday and Saturday nights, along with two group sites. The Village commercial district and the bay are walking distance from the park. People are encouraged to make camping easy and enjoy the variety of eating establishments in the Village.
